AI Assistants → your assistant → Behavior

The Behavior tab is where your assistant gets its personality and its manners. Every change applies to the very next question; press Save behavior at the bottom when you're done.

Tone of voice, length and language

  • Tone of voice: Friendly (warm and helpful, like your best front-desk person), Professional (polished and precise), Playful (upbeat, with the odd emoji) or Concise (straight to the point).
  • Answer length: Short, Balanced or Detailed. Balanced suits most businesses; choose Short if your visitors are mostly on phones.
  • Language: Match the visitor (recommended) replies in whatever language the visitor writes in, even if your website is only in English. You can also fix it to one language.

Four tones, three lengths, and replies in your visitor's own language.

Give it house rules

Custom instructions are rules your assistant follows on top of answering only from your knowledge. Write them in plain English, one per line, or press one of the examples under the box to add it. For example:

  • Always mention our free consultation when someone asks about pricing.
  • Never quote delivery dates; say we confirm them by email.
  • Call our customers "members", not "clients".

Instructions shape how it answers. For what it says about a topic, a custom answer is more reliable.

Capture leads

When a visitor wants a quote, a call or a follow-up, your assistant can collect their details for you. Choose how pushy it should be:

  • Off: never asks for contact details.
  • Subtle: waits for real interest, then offers a personal follow-up in the conversation and asks for details naturally. The best choice for most businesses.
  • Always: shows the lead form under the first answer.
  • Smart (the default for every new assistant): turns your assistant into an AI sales agent. It works out which of your services each visitor needs (asking a quick question when they haven't said), shows them concretely and honestly why it's worth doing with you, answers their doubts, and steers them to book it in the chat (when bookings are on) or leave their details. It never invents prices, deadlines or risks and never pressures - if a service doesn't suit someone, it says so.

Then choose the details to ask for (name, email, phone; there's always an email or a phone so your team can reach them), optionally change the text on the lead form, and set where lead alerts are emailed (leave it blank to use your account email). Every lead appears under Leads and in Bookings, with the whole conversation.

Subtle asks only when a visitor shows real interest.

Decide what happens when it can't answer

Under When it can't answer, add the contact email, phone number and contact page your assistant should offer when a question isn't in your knowledge, so a visitor is never left at a dead end. The fallback message is shown if the assistant is paused or out of messages, for example: "We're away right now. Call us on 02 9000 0000 and we'll be in touch today."

The When it can't answer settings with contact email, phone and fallback message
Contact details it offers instead of guessing, and a fallback message.

Your assistant is instructed never to make things up. When it doesn't know, it says so and offers these details, and the question appears in Knowledge Gaps so you can teach it.
